From you to the business....

To climb up the corporate ladder, is just like any other task in life. It starts with yourself. To go places in life and in the business world you must be honest! Although, in all honesty some companies do not like the truth. Those same companies that do not like the truth, do not last long. If you are not honest with yourself, it will be hard to be truthful to the rest of the business world. We all have work ethic and common sense. We must apply everything we have learned from everyone, family, freinds and put those into play with the decisions we make in a company. In the end when you are honest the corporate world will be honest with you!

Reputation, Voice and Presence

In Life we all want to make our voices heard! We also want to make sure we establish a reputation, so that when somebody says our name another person says, "Oh you talking about Michael Chiguichon, the one who always has a positive attitude". We also like people to know we are there ready to challenge, listen and acknowledge any obstacle that comes into play. It is the same thing in the business field. Establishing a reputation in the corporate field it very important. It is your name that carries all your special traits and willingness that people catch and remember. Making our voices heard for business purposes tells that you are intact and open minded to changes and surprises. It is not a walk in the park for anyone to make their voice heard. It tells managers, supervisors and corporation that you are open to criticism and just another voice in the crowd that would like to give their piece of mind. Presence is the essence of oneself. If you are not present during a presentation, or meeting people will not take you as serious as if you were there. For example when you are present, you give body language, eye contact, make your voice hear and get fedback right away. If you are not present those key points goes right out the window. Remember carry your name along with you voice and let your presence speak for itslef!

Build, Grow and Learn

To climb up the corporate ladder, you first must know your mission/vision. Know where you want to be in the long run. Know how to get there, and know that it takes a lot of sweat, dedication, hard-work, confidence, trails and tribulations and patience. When you think of a ladder, you picture steps that lead from bottom to top. In the business world it is the same thing. Everybody starts off at the bottom, whether it be from dishwasher, custodian, paper man/woman, etc. Those same people that start off from the bottom are in it for the long mission/vision. They believe that with all words listed above how to climb up the ladder will get them there. These people recognize that even though they are at the bottom, they are with a organization that in time will grow. In any position you have to be able to adapt, get along and establish a relationship between every single person within the company. No matter what decision you are making always think of the positive and negative outcomes of the situation. In other words think before you act. Work with supervisors and managers to work on communication skills, the better you can communicate and get your message across the better people will understand you and you will send a clear message. Contribute to any cause that will effect the work place, in time your contribution will stick out like soar thumb to due a lot of contributing. Last but not least, one of life's lesson that will never go away, keep learning. You are never to late to learn anything, knowledge is power and the more you learn the better it will be to climb up the corporate ladder.

Finding a company with an incline ladder

First thing, you want to be with a company that can offer you a room to grow. Look for companies with opportunity for advancement, when applying for a career. This does not mean you would have to work for a prestige corporation, even though they provide a lot of promotions. At the same time, you don’t want to work for a company that has every positions filled for the next ten years plus, and end up being in the same position for the rest of your career. Finding the right company is very essential in climbing the ladder. You can find out about a company before you start working for them, do your own research, as well ask questions like is there opportunity for promotions within the company.

Job shadowing “Another way to move up”

Once you start working for an organization and set your goal within the company as to where you want to be, the next best step is to inquire about job shadowing the position that you would like to get promoted to. This way, you would learn more about that position, as well as develop your skills and gain more experience. When that position becomes available, you will be picked because you already have firsthand experience. Job shadow is beneficial to both the corporation and you. It saves your company training time and expenses, and expends your skill.
